National Living Wage & National Minimum Wage Increase

The Autumn Statement disclosed that come 1 April 2024, the national living wage and national minimum wage would increase.

What is the difference between the National Living Wage (NLW) and the National Minimum Wage (NMW)?

  • National Living Wage (NLW) if you're aged 23 or over

  • National Minimum Wage (NMW) if you're aged under 23 or an apprentice

    The Current Rates (to 31 March 2024) The New Rates (from 1 April 2024)

Who gets the apprentice rate?

You're eligible for the apprentice rate if you're:

  • Under 19

  • 19 or older, but within the first year of your ongoing apprenticeship agreement

If you're 19 or older and have finished the initial year of your current apprenticeship, you're eligible for at least the minimum wage appropriate for your age.
